Mean of bore

the crinoline certainly bore a symbolic relation to the age in which it thrived. In one of its aspects it symbolized female fertility, as an expansion of the apparent size of the hips always seems to do. This was an age of big families, and since the rate of infant mortality was not quite so high as it had been in previous periods, the population of England expanded rapidly.

what is mean bore in this pragraph. How can we write the first sentence in another way, and I cant get any clue about "the population of England expanded rapidly" how it is relevant with the paragraph meaning.

I think of "to bear" in this sense as "to carry."

The right to bear arms.

A bears a relation to B.

A brings with it a relation to B.

A carries a relation to B.

A has a relation to B.

"Bore" is the past tense of "bear."
