Hi,

There was a lengthy talk on my getting a salary hike.

The second one is better although about is better than on. Talk about = discuss, Talk on= presentation/lecture. There was a lengthy discussion about me receiving a pay rise.

The second one is better although about is better than on.

Talk about = discuss,

Talk on= presentation/lecture.

There was a lengthy discussion about me receiving a pay rise.

The first is formally correct and is suitable for formal written English. The second is the normal conversational form for many speakers (though people who are particular about such things may use the "my" form in conversation).

"talk on" sounds as if someone gave a lecture. If you mean there was a discussion about the matter then "talk about" is better.
