In casual conversation. (Both of them, actually.)

Hi, MrM.

Would you make a choice in Perfect Stranger's original post, or are both equally acceptable?

I'm afraid I answered solely on the strong opinion of my elders when I was a child:

I don't like going to school! (reply) Me neither!
I don't like going to school! (reply) Me either!

(I agree that both are casual.)

Personally, I consider 'me either' to be incorrect English. However, it seems to be becoming more used, and there are several citations in the Corpus of Contemporary American. I don't like 'me either', but I have to accept that the language is changing.

(Actually, I was so out of it that I thought your first post was an old one of mine.) Surely in real, casual English we have heard and used both of them very commonly, irrespective of any negation or affirmation in the original statement.

Thanks, MrM. (My mother is probably turning over in her grave.)

I guess "Either would I!" is okay too.
