Me and Joe OR I and Joe ?

Hello

Me and a friend of mine are planning to travel abroad.

OR

I and a friend of mine are planning to travel abroad.

Which one is right? First one sounds better to me but I can't be sure.Emotion: thinking

"I" is the correct form., but it's true "I and a friend of mine" sounds a bit strange, although it's correct.

How about "I'm planning to travel abroad with a friend of mine"?

I think the oddness comes from impolitely putting oneself first.

A friend of mine and I are planning to travel abroad.-- this sounds fine to me. And of course the subject pronoun is required for any but very casual use.

Anon, I'm sorry, but you are incorrect. A friend of mine and I is really the only way to write this, without a rewrite like Pieanne suggests.
