my lecturer recently asked me bout Mcd tagline whether it's right or not...."I'M LOVING IT"...is there any explanation why the sentence is wrong???

Except for the fact that there is no expressed antecedent (for 'it'), the sentence is good.

Isn't there some rapidly disappearing "rule" against using "love" in the progressive?  Something about stative verbs?

I think khoff is right - it is to do with stative verbs. This is a group of verbs that have their own rules. One rule is that you cannot use the progressive present..

- I am knowing French quite well now [NO!]

[This sentence will be taken badly by English speakers]

However, some aspects of the stative rules have been falling away for a while..

- I'm loving it

- How's your Elsie getting on, what with her husband away and all that?

- Oh, she's loving it!

You can google a list of stative verbs: at most there may be fifty that you might want to use

If you are writing for school or college, or for an employer, then it is best to keep away from the progressive present with stative verbs. But in story-telling and conversation, it's often used..

[Your friend is reading you his essay..]

- That sounds wrong to me

- That's sounding wrong to me

The first is correct. The second breaks the stative rule but, quite honestly, it's sounding OK to me

I think the influence is from young street speech and it is moving into the language..

- I'm thinking you're wrong about that

- I'm, so, not believing that

- Like, I'm knowing?
