For example;

1-) Maybe he can help you pass your exam.

2-) He can help you pass your exam maybe.

3-) Perhaps he can help you pass your exam.

4-) He can help you pass your exam

1. and 3. They don't feel good at the end of the sentence.

'Perhaps' and 'maybe' are both fine in BrE; but I remember reading on another thread that 'perhaps' sounds a little stuffy (or prissy), to American ears.

(Quite often, 'perhaps' is pronounced 'praps' by BrE speakers.)

Hello Dj

Perhaps you might say that the 'maybe/perhaps' at the beginning of the sentence puts the emphasis on what follows; whereas at the end of the sentence, it has an air of retrospective doubt – maybe.

I think this occurs mostly when you are talking, you know, as a second thought.
