"Maybe we should have started studying when we were younger",

I have found this sentence "Maybe we should have started studying when we were younger", and then is this sentence "When we were younger, I would have done anything to be with her" possibly fine to use?

(in a movie, Song For You)
Arthur: I know you all loved Marian and when we were younger, I would have done anything to be with her and share something like this with all of you.

Elizabeth: You don't have to do this in front of everyone, Arthur.

Arthur: No, I am sorry for how I have been.

I am sorry this movie is not The Great Gatsby but Song For you. and I think that the example sentence might be okay to use. What do you native English speakers think again? I am sorry about dragging this question out.
