Maybe I'm not

Part of dialog:

You think you're the only one who's experienced losing someone close? I lost my mother. She died about two months ago. (pause) You know, I was afraid I'd be a complete wreck, and that it would be obvious to everybody, but... maybe I'm not. So maybe I don't know how you feel at all.

- Would "maybe I'm not" sound completely natural to you here (to mean 'maybe I'm not a wreck)? Or would you prefer to add something to it?

- If the latter, would "but... maybe I'm coping a lot better than I thought" be appropriate?

Thanks a lot.
