Maybe I loved someone not worth loving

Hello.

Are the following sentences grammatically correct?

"Maybe I loved someone not worth loving. Besides that person made fun of me several times because her vanity was bigger than her decency."

Thanks.

A comma is needed after "Besides". It is all grammatically correct, but "several times" seems somehow weak. I also wonder whether "Besides" is quite the right way to connect these ideas.
