maybe as an adverb

Are those sentences all good to use?

Maybe he is ill.
He may be ill.
He is maybe ill.

The first two sentences are fine but in the last one maybe should be replaced with perhaps because maybe isn't usually placed after am, are, is, was and were. You can also say Perhaps he is ill. CB

The first is good.

The second is good, but as two words, may be is not an adverb.

The third is unnatural.
