They seem fairly much the same, and are more likely to be used for variety so you don't have to repeat the same word. There's a slight sound difference that can be utilised because 'perhaps' hits and ends with a hard 'p' and 'maybe' with a softer 'm' It's possible (if analysed) that "maybe" has a slightly greater chance of a thing proving doable or true, and perhaps slightly more uncertain.
