May end up with a/an?

Should I use a or an here:

"He may end up with a/an 'I can't do this' type of an attitude"?

The vowel I makes me want to use 'an' but somehow 'a' sounds better to me.

He may end up with a 'can do' attitude.
He may end up with a 'this is impossible' attitude.
He may end up with an 'oh gee, this is impossible' attitude.
