Matthew 5:3–5:

Matthew 5:3–5:
“Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted.

Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the earth.”

Hello,

Would anyone explain the three lines from the Bible? Why will "the poor in spirit, people who mourn, the meek" have the blessing?

Do these imply the rich in spirit, people are happy , independent" are not lucky?

Thanks!

Hi! The meaning of the lines you have mentioned is a little bit different. According to what the Saints explain, by the expression "poor in spirit" are meant those people who feel how imperfect we humans are before the magnificent perfection of ***.

  • In this sense, even someone "rich in spirit" can be "poor in spirit" at the same time and many of the Saints were like that.
  • "Those who mourn": I suppose you have never heard about "joyful sorrow".
