Mathematical nature-knowledge

Hello,

I have come across the phrase "mathematical nature-knowledge" in a sentence which I will mention in just a moment.

My question is, does it mean anything more than mathematics? I would be thankful of any help.

Aristotle’s supremacy extended not just over philosophy but also over mathematical nature-knowledge.

Top answer

It seems to be jargon from history of knowledge. I guess it means what the Greeks did in using mathematics to investigate nature, like their studies of musical tones and their manipulation of basic geometric shapes. Archimedes rules!
