Match VS Matchstick

Hi

Is "match" the same as "matchstick" ? Can we use them this way?

I need a match.
I need a matchstick.

Also, do these sentences (verbs) work?

As she struck the match, there was a huge blast. (or matchstick?)
As she lit/lighted the match, there was a huge bang.

Thanks,

Tom

PS: A silly question, but burn the matchstick wouldn't work, would it? Perhaps like this?

Hurry up! You are burning down the last matchstick. Light the candle quickly.

Not matchstick. It does not have a match head (the chemicals that ignite and start the fire)

No.

We strike matches.
We light candles, the gas

I am grateful! One last question.

Which word would a native speaker use here?

His ear was itching again. He looked around on the kitchen slab hoping to find one match/matchstick.
The box was only a yard away on the sidewalk. He hoped it would contain at least one match/matchstick.

Both words are possible.
People commonly have matches around the house, but not matchsticks. You can purchase matchsticks from a crafts shop.

Thanks, Blue Jay. Yes, the post does show in my notifications now.

Seems like you haven't got the chance to move away from your PC for many hours now. No rest?

I've been doing some other things, and checking in here every few minutes to keep an eye on things. Now I'm waiting on my laundry to dry so I can hang up my clothes before I go to bed. It's almost 2:45 am here, and I am more than ready for bed, but my sleep patterns are a bit out of whack at the moment.
