What are the proper usages of 'mastery in' and 'mastery of' . Plz show examples.

Are the following sounding ok? ----->>

'we have earned mastery in english language'
'we have earned mastery of english language.'

2. 'we have earned mastery of english language.'

Why is second sentence okay when the 'w' in 'we' and 'e' in 'english' are not capitalised?
