The chairman of the Hurriyat (G), Syed Ali Shah Geelani, on Wednesday said that the reaction of the Kashmiri youth to police violence was a matter of their right but could not be turned into a pastime.
Speaking at a condolence meeting in Saida Kadal where he had gone to meet the parents of the slain teenager, Tufail Ahmad Mattoo, soon after being discharged from the SKIMS, Geelani said that a massive
tide would sweep away pro-India politicians if the process of indiscriminate
rounding up of youth was not stopped forthwith.
Geelani urged youth to shun stone pelting. "Stone pelting is not justified if it is done for the sake of fun or creating fear psychosis."
Geelani said youth should only pelt stones in self defence if police and Indian troopers use force against innocent civilians. "The ambulances and civilian vehicles should not be targeted during protest demonstrations," he said and urged youth to maintain discipline during the protests.
He said that the government was using threats against the people instead of owning responsibility for the unabated killing of youth.
"Our hearts are bleeding at the martyrdom of young Tufail, and we are partners in the grief of his family," Geelani said.
"The process of singling out young Kashmiri boys for killing has been in vogue for a considerable time now, and our future is being deliberately targeted," he said.
Without naming names, Geelani said that the state rulers had resorted to threats against the public instead of owning responsibility for the killings.
"They don't even allow us to mourn our dead. They should be prepared to face the consequences," he said
Please explain to me the emboldened parts.
