Grammar

mass noun, better

The following composition is not comprehensible or grammatical? "If It had not been for Zen, I should've been trapped in the box of better." (In a sense that I had been trapped in the box of the notions that I always have to make an effort to be a better person and to get a reputation, etc.)

"trapped in the box of better" is hard to understand in isolation. If you have previously talked about "notions that I always have to make an effort to be a better person and to get a reputation, etc", or similar explanation ideally including the word "better", then it would be easier.
