Mass

Hi,

At a hearing on Monday, with hundreds of protesters massed outside the courthouse and news organisations worldwide eyeing the result, Hussein showed up wearing the same billowing slacks she had been arrested in.

Can I change 'massed' to 'massing'?

Thanks in advance

My contribution to the discussion is: "with protesters massed outside" = the protestors had already gathered and were in place; "with protesters massing outside" = protesters were still arriving and getting into place. Let's see what others think.

Different meanings.
massed - the process of 'massing' was completed before she showed up.
