Mary scooped/picked up her books

Mary scooped/picked up her books and headed for school.

Hi,

I think scooped and picked both fit in the above but there are subtle nuances. That is, the hand movements are different. Correct me if I am wrong. Thanks.

To me, "scooped" implies a single quick movement.

I would say that "scooped up" implies that Mary was in a hurry while "picked up" implies that she was just going about her normal routine in the normal way.
