Marry / get married / be married

Hello again,

Which one of the following sentences is correct?

A) Marrying three times so far, Mr. Brown is ......
B) Having been married three times so far, Mr. Brown is ......
C) Getting married three times so far, Mr. Brown is ......

By the way, do we say "marry someone" or "get married to someone" ?

Plus

is it possible to say "he married his daughter with(!) businessman"?

Thanks

All three are syntactically correct, but only B) is likely to be used. "He married his daughter off to a businessman" would be possible. It's not a flattering statement for any of the parties concerned, however.

  • "He arranged to have his daughter marry a businessman" is more neutral.
  • "married with" is not English, except in the sense of "He's married with children", meaning "He's married and has children".

In current English, "marry" is usually used as a transitive verb. "Be married (to someone)" is "to be in a status married to someone" and "get married" means "get into a status married to someone". If you are living in a patriarchal society you can say "I will marry my daughter to a rich businessman". And, if you are a church priest, you could say like "I usually marry four or five couples a week
