Marking and language learning difficulties

Hi,

would you please help me do this:

I have a piece of written homework from a lower-intermediate student from Iran.

How can I indicate the errors using an appropriate marking scheme in the margin of the text?

What are the reasons why each of these particular errors might have been made in terms of language learning difficulties?

The text is given below; thank you.

My brother is more old than me. He is now

20 year old. He live in Tehran with our

aunt. He studies to be a electrical

engineer. I like my brother. He is funny

and he have got a bueatiful girlfriend. She

is also a student. She is also wanting to be

an engineer. Last year he has gone to

England to study English for one month.

My father borrowed him a suitcase to carry

his things. My mother gave him some

money to take with him. He buyed much

things when he is there. I was very happy

when he came back. Now I am study in

England and he is in Tehran again.

Hi, Can you begin by underlining the errors? You might also wish to provide the correction, unless you want to do that in discussion with the student. In most cases, the reason for the error will be either that the student does not understand what he has been taught (eg comparative adjectives), or that he is stumbling over something that he has not yet been taught (eg Present Perfect tense).
