Margaret wettlin

How does(or did) the native users of the language view the soviet translations of Russian classics? I think most of those translators were grammatically impeccable. I would like to mention one person in particular. Her name is Margaret Wettlin. It was she who did many of Gorky's works including his autobio trilogy. She also translated Anna Karenina. Does any one know more about her? She must have worked in 60's or 70's. I find her language very interesting.
