Essay & Composition Writing

Many people believe that international tourism is a bad thing for their country. What are the reasons? Solutions to change negative attitudes.

Today, tourist destinations around the world have been welcoming a growing influx of international visitors. Many people living in these places are, however, finding this development particularly displeasing. There are some underlying reasons for this, and some feasible solutions would be analyzed to address the problem in the essay below.

This issue might be attributable to two main reasons. Firstly, the arrival of travellers from oversea often accompanies with environment impacts. They usually dispose of garbage at their own convenience irresponsibly, in spite of all attempts produced by the local inhabitants to reduce the amount of rubbish. As a result, this activity might contribute to water and soil contamination. Secondly, due to the lack of understanding about the visited country, many international visitors show their disrespect to the local traditions and customs. To illustrate, when Western-based tourists pay a visit to religious areas such as temples and churches in Asian countries, they might wear unsuitable clothes like shorts or skirts, which could cause friction between them and the locals.

Therefore, some practical solutions are suggested to alleviate the problem. To begin with, foreign visitors, who throw rubbish irresponsibly, should be slapped with a fine. For example, in Vietnam, anyone who throw away a plastic bottle into the lake will have to pay a fine of about 100.000 VND, which can help the government reduce a great deal of waste littered by international tourists. In addition, governments and organizations can conduct some campaigns to broaden tourists’ knowledge about the visited destination and local customs such as give away books, flyers and infographic pictures. These activities might prevent visitors from showing their disrespect to the local traditions.

In conclusion, I have presented several factors as well as tried to put forward some plausible measures to mitigate the problem in the above-mentioned arguments.
