Many old buildings protected by law because they are part of a nation’s history. However, some people think they should be knocked down to make way for new ones because people need houses and offices. How important is it to maintain old buildings?...

Because of the historical aspects, old architectures receive the preservation from the government to maintain structure and cultural values. Nevertheless, suggestions argue that the reconstruction of old buildings to create places for new infrastructures is more suitable with the development of society. Personally, despite the importance of maintaining old buildings, history should not stand in the way of development.

Firstly, it is widely believed that protecting old buildings is crucial but the need of constructing new areas for citizens outweigh that protection. In detail, with the educational purpose for younger generation, the government focus on preserving a tremendous number of historical moments originated from old buildings. For example, after the nuclear attack of the USA in World War II, Sanno Shrine gate was destroyed significantly, but still receives the care of Japanese government until now to raise the awareness of people about wars. However, the problems about sustaining the safety of old buildings require a lot of time and money from government. As a result, the only significantly important area should be preserved.

On the other hand, with the advanced development of medical and education, the population increases massively, leading to escalating the demand for new houses and working areas. In detail, due to the rocket of the density of population in the cities, housing problems always receive the attention first. In spite of the practical values, the replacement of old buildings to make a room for newer ones is essential. Consequently, the best things for the development of human should be prioritized over the historical moments.

In conclusion, it is undeniable that maintaining old buildings and architectures is not only indeed vital but also necessary for the tourism industry of each country. However, government should protect only the significantly important places to create more space to develop other aspects.
