Many Grammar doubts. Could you help me?

Here are my doubts:

1) Once upon a time, I was in the USA. (Is it correct the use of Once upon a time, here?)

2) Suddenly the tornado passed. It doesn´t sound correct to me.

3) In the moment that the tornado was coming, I was playing.... (in the moment? I thought of "At the moment", but doesn´t it mean now??

4) On a holiday at the beach of Mexico....

5) My family and I ..........

6) To hide in/into the basement.

7) What is wrong in this sentence?: "The tornado threw up cars more than 100 mts high".

8) Can I start a sentence using the infinitive with TO? Ex: To keek safe, we......

9) There was a lot of wind.

10) Someone talking about Tornadoes said that his neighbour´s house went up. Is it correct?

11) The alarm of the town sounded. It doesn´t seem correct for me. But why?

12) Far away my Mon saw thunders.
