Many friends

Can one use:

1) Too many friends will keep you from doing your work.

instead of:

2) Having too many friends will keep you from doing your work.

Can one use:

3) Many friends will keep you from doing your work.

instead of:

4) Having many friends will keep you from doing your work.

I don't think '3' works with that meaning. It means that there are many friends who will keep you from doing your work.

Maybe it would have that meaning in response to a sentences like:

a) I have many friends.

3) Well, many friends will keep you from doing your work.

where 'many friends' is a repetition of something that has already been said?

Gratefully,

navitasan1) Too many friends will keep you from doing your work.

It means that a lot of friends (more than you need) will deliberately detract you from your work. They are needy. They want to disrupt your attention to work so you can pay attention to them. Maybe they aren't friends at all.
