.......... many business executives fear this country will lose its economic preeminence.

.......... many business executives fear this country will lose its economic preeminence.
A. As poorly educated and trained as many young recruits to the United States work force are
B. So poorly educated and trained are many young recruits to the United States work force that (Answer Key)
C. Because of many young recruits to the United States work force who are so poorly educated and trained
D. That many young recruits to the United States work force are so poorly educated and trained is why

Hello,
Option B is the answer key. But I thought C or D would be the answer key. This is really difficult.
Would you please be kind enough to tell me why C and D do not work here?

Thank you

Note: I asked this question in an another forum but I received different answers and got confused so I decided to ask it here maybe you could give me some more clarification and guidance:
"C: would work with Because instead of Because of and force instead of force who"

One other said:
"C and D are not very elegant. C) would be grammatically correct and logical if it dropped "so." It leads one to think "So poorly that what?" but no "that" follows. D) has the same problem with "so.""

The other one said: "The sentence in option D would work with is the reason why instead of is why."

Would you please be kind enough to tell me which one do you agree with? What's your opinion?
I will be glad if you give me some guidance on this.

Thank you.

C and D don't work because of style and meaning — not so much because of grammar.

C suggests that the recruits are causing the executives to feel fear about the economy, but the meaning should be that the poor education of the recruits is causing this fear.

AnonymousI can see why you have received different answers. The tone of the sentence is not ver y natural in my opinion. I wonder if the author of the test question is a native speaker. The answer choices are also awkward and lacking the flow of natural English to my ear. Recruit - sounds unprofessional. A recruit is someone who is enlisted ( or has joined) to the arm for

Everybody, thank you for answering.
Once a native English speaker told me: "C) would be grammatically correct and logical if it dropped "so."

Do you agree with this?

Thank you.

Removing "so" does not address the main problem as identified in Calif Jim's reply.
