Making negative the second verb while the first is not a Modal

Hi all,
my question is how make the second verb negative while the first verb is not a modal one. Specifically speaking:
I want to not invite you to dinner.
I want not to invite you to dinner. or
I know that we normally make the first verb negative but look at the following:
I asked him to not let you go there
I asked him not to let you go there.

Top answer

I don't want to invite you to dinner. I asked him not to let you go there. The negation is transferred to the first verb in the case of some verbs; want is one of them.

  • I don't want to invite you to dinner.
  • I asked him not to let you go there.
  • The negation is transferred to the first verb in the case of some verbs; want is one of them.
  • The negative is expressed with the negative infinitive form not to for other verbs; ask is one of them.
