Making mistakes is (a) part of learning

Hi.

Why don't we say a part of learning?

In which structures should we use a part of?

I think it all depends on the object of the preposition 'of'-here learning, but I'm not sure!

  • There may be some contexts (such as perhaps at the beginning of a sentence) where "a" seems a bit redundant.

But that's "have". The "a" is more likely to be dropped after "be".

It's part of the job.
