Making calls

Hi, so there's this song called Your Love Is My Drug

http://www.metrolyrics.com/your-love-is-my-drug-lyrics-kesha.html

and she says:

I'm lookin' down every alley
I'm makin' those desperate calls
I'm stain' up all night hopin'
Hittin' my head against the wall

So my question is, "calls" = "phone calls"? My first impression was that it might be something like desperate attempts/decisions she has to make, presumably to get his attention. Or maybe even something else, like she can't find him (lookin' down every alley) so she cries out or shouts or calls his name. Is that possible or am I reading way too much into the words? Thank you.
