Making an issue

Hi,

What it means to make an issue from an election?
If I heard right the sentence was
" A lot of people are seeing us, and they are making an election issue, they are blaming the government..."

Top answer

They might not be making an issue from an election. It is probably that some issue is becoming an important matter in the election. Some people want the election to address that issue.
