Make/do/take/take part in a draw

Are my sentences natural English?:

-To choose our rooms for the next year, we had to __ a draw. You had to walk up to the podium and take a slip from an envelope, on which would be a number; the number would decide the order in which students got to choose their rooms. The small the number, the wider the range of rooms you could choose from. But unluckily I got a bad/the last number, so I had to accept an unpopular room with bad reception.

Thank you.

Yes, I missed that. The original is wrong.
