make/become great souvenirs

--Before visitors head home, many pick up some interesting and inexpensive local products. This prefecture (Okinawa) is known for its brown sugar and its glassware, so a vase and delicious brown sugar cakes and candies make great souvenirs.

Hi,

Does "make" in the above amount exactly to "become?" If not, what are the subtle nuances? Thanks.

Hi, In my opinion, make here means 'having the quality of' , as in: "I'm sure that you will make an ideal teacher. " That does not mean you will become a teacher, but you have a quality of such a person.

Hi Angliholic

Basically, you could replace 'make' with 'are' in your sentence.
