Make vs makes

Since 2004, Singapore has won the Asian Football Championship thrice. This, and it's 1998 triumph, make /makes us the only four-time winner of the tournament.

The writer uses "makes". I think he is wrong. Am I right?

Thanks.

That's not the only mistake. " it's " is also wrong.

its 1998 triumph would not be good, either, because the speaker is thinking of himself as a native of Singapore. We know this because he speaks of 'us'.

So what do you think he should say instead of its 1998 triumph?

Thanks, Clive.

"our" should have been used, I think.

Note that 'thrice' is fine in some varieties of English, but is unnatural in British and American English. We say 'three times'.
