Make toasts

Hello,

I have got a question which could be connected with countable/uncountable nouns. I have come across the following sentence:

"Having been somehow launched into a fantastic frame of mind, they set about pouring whiskey and making toasts in such a raucous style it would be easy to imagine oneself aboard a pirate ship."

Does "making toasts" mean they were touching their glasses, or toasting pieces of bred?

Thank you for your answer.
