Make their way

Hi,

This performance first performed in ancient Greek theaters. Over the years, they made their way/ moved onto stages and streets around the world.

What does made their way mean here? Can I use 'moved' instead of 'made their way' without change the meaning?

That is a bit off-kilter. I think you mean something like "These plays were first performed in the theaters of ancient Greece. Over the centuries, they found their way onto stages around the world."
