Make someone appear bad

Hi

It is a common practice at homes or offices when one person tries to appear good and makes someone else look like a bad guy. Sometimes a parent does it to the other. Could you please tell me how to describe it in a native way?

Is this sentence OK? Any suggestions please?

She is one of those mothers who appear good in their children's eyes and make the father look bad.

Thanks,

Tom

Please clarify what you mean. Is makes someone else look like a bad guy intentional or not?

She paints the father black. (This is falling out of favor under PC pressure, I think.)

She makes him the bad guy.

She is always running him down. (American Millennials probably think she uses her car.)
