Make O C

Hello, I have a few questions as shown below.

Is this sentence correct?

1) That made marriages harder to be successful.

The original sentence is;

2) (Half of the people answering a recent survey thought) that made it harder for marriages to be successful.

I am often confused with whether or not to use "it" in "make O C" sentences as in 2), which has "for noun" in its sentence.
I wonder if "it" indicates "marriages". But if so, does "it" need to be "them" since "marriages" is plural?

Thank you very much for your help in advance!

I don't find (1) very satisfactory. (2) is OK. "it" is a dummy "it".

I see. Thank you very much for your reply!
I'll remember it as one form of a sentence in English. Emotion: smile
