make more sense

Hi teachers,
I read this sentence in bold type and cannot understand it exactly, so could you possibly help me understand it?:

. "Only you and nobody else. You’re the perfect half to complete my circle." Yet now we did not have "congenial kinship"! He should have thought a little bit harder to provide a reason; say, he could not accept my days-long business trips. A myriad of reasons would have made more sense than the one he gave.

Thank you in advance

Hi,
Many reasons would have been better than the reason that he gave me.

In other words, the reason he gave me was not a good reason.

Thank you Feebs and Clive but do you think " myriad of reasons would have made more sense than the one he gave." is natural to native speakers?

Hi,
It dosn;t sound at all odd.
The word 'myriad' and the overall sentence form suggest a reasonably educated speaker.
