make life enjoyable

A few new items will make our life more enjoyable/pleasant.

This film is quite enjoyable/pleasant.

We had an enjoyable/pleasant weekend.

Are "enjoyable" and "pleasant" interchangeable and synonymous in all of the above contexts? Thanks.

Top answer

Almost, but not entirely. "Pleasant" carries a sense of "niceness" and perhaps calm. I could go whitewater rafting, bungee jumping, and skydiving, and consider it enjoyable , but I wouldn't use pleasant .

Similarly, if your taste in movie includes horror films (mine doesn't!) you might consider such a movie enjoyable, but not call it pleasant.

My only problem with a thesaurus is that I get completely distracted by possible suggestionsand start imagining scenarios in which I'd use some of them. This time, it happened with "groovy." Don't use that one.
