Make half as much as he makes

Hi

Am I right that the word "what" is unnatural in the following sentence?

I earn half as much as what he earns.

I'm not 100% sure.

Thanks!

Thanks! It's weird but I googled the phrase 'make half as much as' in quotes and almost every search result gives me sentences that end with pronouns/nouns/names e.g.

...new autoworkers make half as much as veterans...

Since he does not make half as much as Farrell...

I make half as much as you...

Do they have it all wrong? I was expecting verbs like 'make/do/d

The verb at the end is optional. Sorry, I should have made that clear in the beginning.

I got a bit confused about this:

I make half as much as [him / he].

Perhaps because I read somewhere that 'him' is not very grammatical although it's common. Is 'he' wrong?

Because ending with he sounds incomplete, many people use him. But that sounds wrong to me, so I usually add the verb (or the auxiliary verb). [ English doesn't
