Hi,

What's the meaning of "make ground against"?

Two soldiers, A and B, are fighting. A is winning, and moving forward while B is losing and moving backwards. A is 'making ground against' B.

It means winning or making successful progress. It's not just used for two people, but often for one person in a difficult situation.

Ah. Intel and AMD are both "fighting" for the same customers. Going back to the original description in this thread, Intel has "taken some of the ground" meaning they have a better position in the market place. The question is now whether AMD will be able to take back this ground before the holidays, when a lot of product will be sold.
