Vocabulary

make for

Hello everyone,

Does “make for” mean result in, in this context?

Lines distinguishing different groups and generations could not be completely erased by the building of a sense of common commitment and endeavour. What was a contribution to harmony in one context could become a support for disharmony in another set of circumstances. Religious networks could make for a unified effort or become the vertebrae of different segments of reformers whose conflicts were expressed in organisational diversity and competition. (Source: The culture of English antislavery 1780–1860, by David Turley)

Thanks.
