Make a transgression

Hi,

Is ‘make a transgression’ the correct way of saying that somebody did something that was in vialoation of specific rules or can the word ‘transgression’ only be paired with ‘commit’?

Thank you

Both are correct, but 'commit a transgression' is the more frequently used combination. It occurs in books about 200 times more often than 'make a transgression'. You can also use the verb 'transgress', which is also used more often than 'make a transgression'.
