Make a phone call

Hello

This is my first question here that is why I am quite nervous right now

My question is when I make a phone call

to Mr.Berger what should i say first?

Berger : Hello

I :Hello. This is J from J office.

Or

: Hello. Is this Mr.berger? This is J ~

I don't even know "Is this berger?" is right to ask formally

Please revise this

If you are sure it's Mr Berger (e.g. you recognise his voice), you can say:

Hello, this is ...

or

Hello Mr Berger, this is ...

If you aren't sure that it is Mr Berger speaking, you can say:

Hello, is this/that Mr Berger?

(I would naturally say "that".) Then wait for the other person to reply before proceeding.
