make a beeline

Hi everyone,

1) I spent the last few months looking for you. I have spent the last few months looking for you.

Even though I have already found the person I was looking for, can I still use both of the sentences? I guess the second sentence indicates that the process of searching only just finished.

2) I used to watch 5 episodes a day. I cut it down to one.

3)Is the phrase 'make a beeline' used nowadays? For instance: I took my dog for a walk, but after a couple of minutes she just made a beeline for our house.

Thank you so much for your help!
