Maintenance crew's already been through there...

John goest to the archive room but Lois says:
Maintenance crew (the janitors?)'s already been through there. Is she implying it's locked somehow?

"Maintenance" could mean the janitors, but I think it's more likely to mean the people who are responsible for repairing things and keeping the building's equipment running smoothly (air conditioning, plumbing, etc.).

I'm not sure what the connection might be between "maintenance" and "keys." Presumably they would have locked the room after they left it, but would it not ordinarily be l
