Maintaining the detail of a paragraph without making more new sentences.

How can i maintain the details of this sentence and avoiding making more seprate sentences. I don't know how to explain my problem properly but how can i keep it concise?

"Having devoted a considerable amount of my spare time to studying various scientific case studies and articles on the internet, i first became interested in biology when i was handed a copy of the article "knowing Where to Scratch" as part of my summer homework during A-levels."
