"maintain" vs "retain"

Which one would be correct in this sentence:"
Party A would only consent to let Party B ____ their franchise if Party B proposed an enticing enough business proposal."

Both sound fine to me though.

'maintain a franchise' is not a collocation I'm familiar with and I don't think that you can 'maintain a franchise'.

'retain' , on the other hand', implies that a franchise has already been granted to party B and they will retain it if they offer a good business proposal.
